Twenty RTOs signed up; 2,000 students logging on

The level of training provider interest and participation in Rural Skills Online continues to grow, as do the number of students, trainees and industry people utilising the facility to complete Certificate II, III and IV; and Diploma and Advanced Diploma AHC10 qualifications.

More than 20 registered training organisations (RTOs) are utilising or preparing to utilise the facility and over two thousand student logons have been issued. The RTOs are involved mainly with the delivery of agricultural qualifications across Australia.

Participating RTOs are required to pay a modest annual facility access charge and pay student logon and data transfer fees.

The facility has clearly demonstrated the capacity to effectively and successfully accommodate the training and assessment needs of small number of students and trainees loosely dispersed across wide geographical areas as well trainees employed by small, medium and larger enterprise operating across state and territory boundaries.

The high-quality web-based content and innovative blended learning delivery platform has contributed to more consistent training and assessment processes, across five States already and will be expanded into Tasmania in the early part of 2013.

The facility provides an ideal platform to host accurate and relevant course content and learning support products, with available trainer and assessor support to assist students and trainees on an ‘as required’ basis.  It has already helped RTOs to clearly demonstrate the use of relevant support materials aligned specifically to the requirements of endorsed units of competence to assist them to fully discharge their Australian Quality Training (AQT) requirements.

Following the recent RSA Board meeting in mid-November, our directors flagged their intentions to pursue every available funding opportunity to expand this wonderful facility and requested the development of fully funding business plan to assist in this regard. Work has commenced already on identifying potential funding sources and determining future development activities.

Custom-built to support RTOs

Rural Skills Online is a web-based learning management system made available to RTOs and Group Training Organisations. Access to the website is at:  http://rsa.performanceplus.com.au using a secure log-on identification and password.

The web platform is designed for RTOs and has two distinct components: a 'Training Tracker' and a ‘Learning Management System’.

These two sites are designed to interface to provide a complete training management and delivery package that supports teaching and student assessment.

The Training Tracker and Learning Management System  work together to give RTOs a means of managing administration, delivery and support in a learning environment. They give students a clear and supported structure – and provide teachers and training organisations with the essential compliance requirements of the Australian Quality Training Framework.

Rural Skills Online now has resources for around 100 units of competence from the AHC10 Training Package from level II, III, IV and Diploma, with a range of additional units to be added through a number of projects in 2012.

In addition a range of assessment tasks and activities have recently been added to the Rural Skills Online 'Training Tracker' to support the online learning resources for 60+ units of competence at Certificate II and III from the AHC10 Training Package.

These tasks and activities are in the form of downloads that are undertaken by the learner then uploaded to their tutor for assessment. They have been designed to address the performance criteria of the particular units from the AHC10 Training Package and when used in partnership with the learning material in the 'Learning Management System' gives the RTO a powerful 'ready to use' tool.

Rural RTOs signing up for innovative system

Rural Skills Online continues to attract wide interest from training providers across Australia. A total of 15 RTOs are now using the system as part of their teaching syllabus and more than 700 students are enrolled.

How it works

The web platform is designed for RTOs and has two distinct components: a 'Training Tracker' and a ‘Learning Management System’. These two sites are designed to interface to provide a complete training management and delivery package that supports teaching and student assessment.

The Training Tracker and Learning Management System  work together to give RTOs a means of managing administration, delivery and support in a learning environment. They give students a clear and supported structure – and provide teachers and training organisations with the essential compliance requirements of the Australian Quality Training Framework.

Rural Skills Online now has resources for around 100 units of competence from the AHC10 Training Package from level II, III, IV and Diploma, and work is underway to create assessment plans complete with works sheets and tasks for the 62 Certificate II and III online units. This will provide RTO's with a 'ready to go' on line system.
