Delivery Arrangements

Undertaking any of the above qualifications as an Australian Apprenticeship requires a training agreement (Contract of Training) between an employer and an employee, under which the employer provides formal training and the Australian Apprentice agrees to learn the occupation. The National Training Packages allow greater flexibility and options in meeting the specific needs of business. The training is usually provided in a form that combines on-the-job learning and skill development with structured off-the-job learning. The 'mix' of on and off the job training is negotiated between the business enterprise, the Registered Training Organisation and the Australian Apprentice.

The training agreement will specify the maximum (nominal) duration for the Australian Apprenticeship. The nominal duration can be varied by agreement between the Registered Training Organisation, the Australian Apprentice and the employer.

Any person over 15 years of age is eligible to participate in these Australian Apprenticeships. This includes family members where they have no equity in the property. There are no minimal education requirements for participation.

To encourage businesses to employ Australian Apprentices the Federal Government provides financial incentives. These incentives range from $1,375 to over $5,500 in some circumstances. Most Agriculture and Horticulture Australian Apprenticeships attract an additional $1,100 incentive for employers who engage females in these non-traditional female roles. Full details of incentives that relate to Agriculture & Horticulture Australian Apprenticeships are available from the nearest Australian Apprenticeships Centre (AAC) free call 1800 639 629.

Employers of Agricultural and Horticultural Australian Apprentices located in 'exceptional circumstances drought areas' may qualify for an additional employer incentive of $3,300, paid in two instalments. Employers must provide a current certificate issued on behalf of the Commonwealth Department of Primary Industry and Energy. The certificates specify the name of the relevant farmer and the valid time period the certificate covers.
