Indigenous Trainees with Central West TAFE WA

Adrian (Bunda) Egan operates the Wool Press

Adrian Egan is a Level 3 Trainee with contractor Doug Carter of Morawa (Western Australia).
Adrian works as a wool presser and has already successfully completed his Certificate 2 in
Agriculture (Sheep and Wool) through Central West College of TAFE with trainer Bernie
Egerton-Green.  Central West College of TAFE has 60 trainees in shearing sheds and on farms.
The training they provide in largely done on the job and this very much suits the industry and
the trainees.

Adrian, who is better known locally as ‘Bunda’, previously worked with the Shire Council, as a
furniture removalist and with an all Indigenous shearing team.  Adrian now sees his future in
the wool industry and intends to continue his training to the next level as a Wool Classer.
Adrian hasn’t found the traineeship too difficult as the training is so relevant to his day to
day work and he sometimes does a little reading on the theory at night.

Adrian is very happy with his career move and the personal achievements he has made so far
in his training.  He says he enjoys the work, the outdoors and being part of the team.  Adrian
also says the money is good and he is saving up for a ute, for fishing and getting around.
Both his contractor Doug Carter and trainer Bernie Egerton-Green are very supportive of
Adrian in continuing his level 3 training and then tackling the level 4 Wool Classers training
program.  Adrian grew up on Billabalong Station; he has no hesitation in recommending a
wool industry career to anyone, he is one of 5 Indigenous trainees with Central West TAFE
at present.
