Australian Apprenticeships is the new name for the scheme formally known as ‘New Apprenticeships’.
Australian Apprenticeships still encompasses all apprenticeships and traineeships. They are a mixture of normal work and organised training that will lead to nationally recognised qualifications.
This allows employers in all sectors covered by the AHC10 Agriculture, Horticulture and Conservation and Land Management Training Package, and Animal Care and Management Training Packages to expand efficiency, productivity and profits whilst increasing the skills base of their industries.
Australian Apprenticeships provide our industry with skilled and experienced workers and provide workers with the opportunity to either start, change or further their careers.
In Victoria, Australian Apprenticeships in Agriculture (from Agriculture, Horticulture and Conservation and Land Management Training Package), Horticulture (from the same Training Package), Animal Studies and Veterinary Nursing (from the Animal Care and Management Training Package and in Conservation and Land Management (from the Agriculture, Horticulture and Conservation and Land Management Training Package) generally run over 12, 18, 36 or 48 months, depending on the qualification level desired and involve structured on and off job training.
Most can be completed on a full time or a part-time basis.
School-based part-time options for some qualifications are also available for Year 11 and 12 school students as apart of their VCE or VCAL studies.
Any person over 15 years of age interested in an Australian Apprenticeship can participate. This includes family members where they have on equity in the property/business and a student/master relationship can be identified. There is no minimal educational requirement for participation.
These training options allow employers and the Australian Apprentice to determine, in conjunction with their selected training provider, what training will be undertaken over the life of the Australian Apprenticeship
