If
you like working outdoors in a warm climate, then rice growing could be
for you. There are over 2000 rice farms in NSW. They are all members of
the Ricegrowers' Co-operative which develops, distributes, markets and exports
rice and rice-based products overseas.
More than 85% of Australia's rice is exported, making rice a large export. Rice also ends up on the dinner table of many Australian families. Popular varieties include Sunrice and Sunwhite. Work opportunities are broadly similar to those for other grains, with work available for farm hands, contract harvesters, agronomists, farm supervisors and managers. |
