If you want to work outdoors, with high-tech machinery and earn above-average wages, a career in the cotton sector could be for you. Cotton is the world's favourite natural fibre. Australia exports over 90 % of its cotton, mainly to Indonesia, Japan and Thailand. Competent and skilled people are required in the industry including machinery operators and chippers for planting, cropping and cultivation; irrigators for watering; cotton pickers, module builders and boil buggy operators to harvest; gin operators for processing; and crop managers and supervisors who run the farm. Agronomists are also required to advise on plant health and nutrition. |
