Seasonal Workers – Recruitment, Induction and Retention

Recruiting seasonal workers is a key part of farm business management, but the shortfall of seasonal workers in Australia is an ongoing problem.

Experienced seasonal workers tend to return to properties where they are paid well and where working conditions are good. They let each other know about these properties and warn each other of properties where standards are considered unacceptable. So, to attract seasonal workers you have to perform well as an employer in a competitive market.

This module considers some of the key issues for farmers in recruitment, induction and year to year retention of seasonal workers. It also provides an example of one farmer’s approach to employing seasonal workers.
